The South Land Park and Greenhaven-Pocket neighborhoods must have at least 20 Chinese restaurants.  Most are pretty much pedestrian serving up large quantities of bland Chinese-American dishes.  New China stands out because they are not only consistently very good, they serve up large quantities of food that are well seasoned.  Not every meal or dish is perfect, but overall, their food quality and quantity seems to surpass everyone else in the area.

Chinese restaurants are know for their ups and downs and our parents always talked about the days when the good cooks come to work, but they never told us what days so our guesses were probably the best we could do.  New China's cooking seems never changing and their meat dishes must have far more meat than those of other restaurants.

Service is consistently quick and friendly and the place never seems to have many people inside, so I assume they must do a good take out business especially being right in the middle of a very busy neighborhood and across the street from a seniors apartment complex.

I can see why the Sacramento Bee picked this cafe as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Sacramento area.

Definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Our friend showed us the salt and pepper fried asparagus with shrimp and it is DEFINITELY a must have! The flavor is so good! The food usually comes out super quick and we haven't had any bad dishes! For the most part, whenever we go, it's not busy at all! Plenty of parking spaces and it's right next to a Baskin Robbins if you're craving ice cream after Chinese food.

Other dishes we've had that were delicious:

    -honey walnut shrimp
    -pork fried rice
    -beef chow fun

They also have a pretty good lunch special!

'THE WALKING DEAD' Chinese restaurant..... That's how I felt sitting here on a Sunday evening for dinner. It's so totally dead. I agree with the other yelper that wrote 'hostile' in their review. The lady taking the call - in orders is loud, and not very friendly. She didn't want to give out the 'to-go boxes' to a customer who had asked for it and who had dined there. Instead she gave her the compartment Styrofoam one. The waitress acted as though she didn't understand the lady. So the customer repeated it to her that she would like 2 boxes and a small one, and the waitress says in a rude, loud voice, 'OK! You want the Styrofoam or the boxes!?' and the customer said it again... The boxes, please. So the waitress returned with the boxes this time. Talking about being cheap! Wow
2 stars... Here's why. It's not a true 'Chinese' restaurant because they don't serve Chinese tea (only Lipton tea) nor do they have 'real chopsticks'. No... You get the cheap, disposable, bamboo chopsticks that breaks unevenly.
We ordered the Szechuan family dinner $14.00/person. It was tasty but not extraordinary. Also, because the place  itself didn't seem very clean. The chairs were very dirty and the window sills had dust and some kind of food crumbs on it. The fish tank had no fish or live seafood. It was bare.   I think it's also due to the dead 'walking dead' atmosphere. The fishes left and never came back. I think I'll  do the same. People order out, but will not eat here.... I wonder why.. Hmm. Would I recommend this place.. .. Only if you want to experience what it is like to star as a cast member from  'The Walking Dead' having your last meal before the zombies break into the place.

Great quality food! I ordered the orange chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, and vegetable chow neon. Big chunks of real chicken, and you could taste the fresh oranges in the sauce! Pepper shrimp was not overly breaded or greasy, and chow main noodle were great, with fresh (still crunchy!) veggies.

    Top 4 items we like

    1) Salt and Pepper Shrimp with shell and head
    2) Garlic Spinach
    3) Chicken with black bean sauce and green beans
    4) Sizzling rice soup without chicken (warning it's salty)

The food is fresh and good. But we are probably injesting more salt/msg than the law allows!!!
